HS Knowledge Bowl- Mr. Gerry Coker

High School Knowledge Bowl is an academic competition much like the popular quiz show Jeopardy. Students compete on teams of four students, three teams to a room, answering questions that cover a broad range of subject areas from core academic subjects to current events.

Coming Events:

About Knowledge BowlOur local meets include teams from as far away as Pagosa Springs and South Park, as well as most schools in the San Luis Valley. As many as 45 teams, from as many as 18 different schools, participate in our meets! The competition is quite fierce! A meet is divided into 5 rounds. The first round is a collaborative, timed, written round consisting of 60 questions. The remaining rounds are oral, with no collaboration allowed. A team must buzz in before the other teams in order to earn the right to answer the question, and the student has only 15 seconds to offer the correct answer. Although winning teams are placed according to their school size (large or small), during a competition teams from small schools might be competing against teams from large schools, thus providing small schools with a measure of how they compare with larger schools academically and vice versa. Currently, our teams practice twice a week during their lunch period. Meets are during the school day, usually the third Thursday of every month, at Adams State College. As time and funding permits, teams may also participate in invitational tournaments hosted by various schools.

Awards:

First through third placing varsity teams receive ribbons at monthly regional meets.

State qualifying teams receive a plaque and ribbons.

State winners receive a trophy.

Team members receive some type of token to commemorate their membership (pins, medals, etc.)
