WEATHER / CLOSING INFORMATION

(PROTOCOL INCLEMENT WEATHER)

In the interest of having the school community aware of the procedures that the School District will follow when stormy weather such as severe snowstorms, blizzard conditions, power outages and the like occur, we have identified some steps which the school will follow in such events. These procedures have been instituted in the interest of minimizing the child care needs for working parents as well as not having to schedule a make-up school day.

Snow Day

Call the Sierra Grande School District Information Line (379-2775) to determine if we are on a two (2) –hour delay or whether school has been totally cancelled for the day. (This message should be on the Information Line not later than 6:30 a.m.). If there is no message on the Information Line about a school closure, then you can assume that school will be on the regular schedule without interruption.

When school is on a two (2)- hour delay all bus routes will run two (2) hours later than normal and be scheduled to arrive at 9:30 a.m. School will open at 9:30 a.m. instead of the usual 7:30 a.m. and classes will begin at 9:45 a.m. This will be a full day for purposes of students who have a goal of perfect attendance.

Breakfast will not be served on days when the school is on a two (2)-hour delay.

In the event of a two (2)-hour delay or school closure we also intend to have a message on radio stations KGIW 1450 AM, KSPK 103.5 FM. and KBZR 97.1 FM.

If there is limited access to a small number of bus route destinations due to inclement weather, we will not put the whole school on a two (2)-hour delay or close school but rather we will simply not pick up those students for that day. These students will have an opportunity to make up any academic work, will not be counted absent, and will not be penalized for non-participation in activity or athletic events.

Early Dismissal.  We will make every effort to avoid early dismissal due to the problems it creates in notifying parents. However, should it be necessary we will notify the radio stations KGIW 1450 AM and KSPK 103.5 FM. Our bus drivers will be instructed not to leave any elementary student at home unless there is an older sibling or parent/guardian home. If there is no adult or older brother or sister at home, we will bring the children back to the school and contact the parents either at work or home. If we cannot make contact, we will then take them home at the regularly scheduled bus route time.
